Mesut Ozil has been criticised for his poor form for Arsenal throughout the season
Arsene Wenger his dismissed reports that the Arsenal team have become ‘angered’ by Mesut Ozil’s attitude, insisting the German playmaker is genuinely injury.
Reports in Tuesday’s newspapers suggested Ozil’s team-mates were growing tired of the midfielder’s ‘prima donna attitude’.
It is claimed a number of the Gunners team suspect Ozil of picking and choosing when he plays, and is currently over exaggerating a back injury after declaring himself unavailable for their last two games.
Ozil, who has not started 25 of Arsenal’s 58 matches this season, also missed a bulk of games earlier in the season due to a mystery illness.
But Wenger insists Ozil’s recent injury troubles are real and confirmed he is unlikely to play again for Arsenal this season.
The Gunners manager, who will end his 22-year reign in charge with away games at Leicester City and Huddersfield Town, said on Tuesday: “I think it’s highly unlikely that he will play again before the end of the season because he doesn’t train.
“When he’s injured, he’s injured. It looks like that sometimes when a player can overcome the pain for one game, but then after that there’s a recurrence of inflammation.
“That’s what happened to him. He wanted to play on Sunday. It was an enjoyable game to play but at the moment he’s injured.”
