Arsene Wenger is confident Jack Wilshere will stay at Arsenal this summer
Arsene Wenger is ‘convinced’ Jack Wilshere will remain at Arsenal this summer after ‘positive’ talks over a new contract.
Wilshere’s current deal with the Gunners runs out in June, meaning he could leave the club for nothing in the summer transfer window.
It was widely reported that the 26-year-old rejected Arsenal’s previous contract offer, which, due to his well-documented injury struggles, featured a cut to his basic wage and was largely based on appearance incentives.
But it was recently claimed talks have since progressed, with a new offer on the table as the club attempt to convince the academy graduate to stay.
And Wenger is confident Wilshere will still be an Arsenal player next season.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash at Leicester City, the departing manager said: “The latest conversation I had with Jack, it looks positive for the club.
“I am not involved any more in negotiations but of course I’m still in touch with Jack.
“If he wants my advice, I will give it to him.
“I am convinced, like I was always, that his future is here.
“It was always my wish and I think it will happen, yes.”
