Milinkovic-Savic joined Lazio from Genk in 2015
Manchester United face a battle to prise Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio after his agent warned the Serbian’s price tag is set to rise again.
The midfielder’s agent, one-time Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman, hinted the fee may far exceed the £88million quoted to potential buyers at the start of the summer.
Milinkovic-Savic is one of the hottest transfer targets around this summer after a breakout season in Serie A, scoring 12 times.
United have been linked to the 23-year-old for several months, but new links to Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred suggests they may be turning their attention elsewhere in case the Milinkovic-Savic fee skyrockets.
Lazio are aware of growing interest in the player from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, and with this summer’s World Cup approaching for him to showcase his talents with Serbia, the Italian club are not willing to sell low.
Kezman said: “We agree that he’s one of the greatest products in European football in the last season.
“I don’t want to talk about numbers [for a transfer fee], but it’s clear the numbers are going up all the time.
“Real Madrid? He said in an interview that when he was a child he dreamed of playing for them.
“That’s the aspiration of any young player though. In life and football you never know what morning will bring.”
United boss Jose Mourinho is on the lookout for a star to solve his central midfield issues, after Michael Carrick’s retirement and an apparent rift with Paul Pogba.
Milinkovic-Savic’s fee, should he make the move to Old Trafford, would likely far exceed the £89million United paid for Pogba in 2016, a world record at the time.
