Promotional gear for US tour revealed but no new match-ready shirts for expectant fans
Tottenham fans were left fuming yesterday after the club announced a new pre-season shirt as fans still await Nike’s designs for match-worn kits.
The jersey, to be worn on the Spurs’ tour of the US in July, drew the ire of angry fans who remain in the dark about how their team will look as they make the switch to their new 62,000-seat White Hart Lane stadium.
They finish their fixtures against AC Milan in Minneapolis on July 31, needing to finish top of the 18-team league table to claim the trophy.
But as the club try to stir up interest in the competition ahead of flying out to the States, fans were less than pleased about Nike’s slow progress, with these reactions on social media:
The club signed a multi-year deal with Nike at the beginning of last season but the American brand are still keeping their fans waiting with baited breath.
With the futures of stars Toby Alderweireld, Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele still uncertain, it could be that the club do not want to risk snapping the squad in the new kit, which would leave them decidedly red-faced if any of them did leave.
Spurs fans are already facing a delay to their new stadium move, with three away games in the first four and their only home game being moved to Wembley, before finally running out at the new White Hart Lane on September 15 against Liverpool.
