'It's just a game' – Azam Khan urges Pakistan fans to take a step back following 19-run defeat against Zimbabwe
Quetta Gladiators batsman Azam Khan has urged Pakistan cricket fans to take a step back and support the side following a surprising 19-run defeat against Zimbabwe.
Pakistan were given a small total of 119 to get an unassailable lead in the series, but their batting faltered under pressure created by dot balls and batsmen’s inability to pace the run-chase. This was Zimbabwe’s first-ever victory over Pakistan in a T20I game.
However, Azam said that cricket is just a game where you can have good and bad days. “People need to understand that cricket is just a game, sometimes you do good and sometimes you don’t, and if you can’t support them in their bad days then you’re not a true cricket fan,” he posted on Twitter.
Pakistan’s defeat has brought a lot of backlash from former cricketers including Ramiz Raja, Shoaib Akhtar and Shoaib Malik.
Shoaib Malik had slammed Misbah-ul-Haq and called for ‘an international white-ball coach’ as well as added that captain Babar Azam and Chief Selector Mohammad Wasim should call the shots.
“Unacquainted decision makers need to take a step back; Babar & chief selector need to call the shots. In my opinion we need an international white ball coach who understands cricket inside out & grooms our captain whilst giving clarity to our players for coming time,” he tweeted.
Former Pakistan captain and famous commentator Ramiz Raja said: "Pakistan team looked like a rabbit in the headlights. They were expecting disasters, did not back themselves and showed an ordinary performance against a club level side.”
Pakistan and Zimbabwe will face-off in the third and final T20I on April 25.
